To disseminate the teachings and perpetuate the memory of HaGaon HaRav Zvi Hirsch Grodzinsky zt"l through educational programs and publication of religious works.
HaGaon HaRav Zvi Hirsch Grodzinsky zt"l was born near Novogrudok (Navarodok) Belarus in 1857. In his early years, he studied with his second cousin HaGaon HaRav Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky zt"l and lived in their home. Later, he was educated in the leading Torah centers in Eastern Europe, and was a student of HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Elchonon Spektor zt"l. Rav Grodzinsky continued his advanced Torah studies uninterrupted since his youth.
In 1891, Rav Grodzinsky zt"l decided to emigrate with his family to America. From his arrival in Omaha, Nebraska in 1891 until his death in 1947, Rav Grodzinsky zt"l was recognized as one of the greatest gedolim of the time. During this period, he was Chief Rabbi of the Orthodox Jewish community of Omaha, leading several synagogues and heading the local beis din. He was a much sought-after פוסק, addressing hundreds of difficult questions posed by rabbis around the world. And, perhaps most significantly, he was a prolific writer, publishing seven ספרים in his lifetime on various Talmudic tractates and halachic subjects, numerous articles in Torah journals, hundreds of teshuvos to rabbis across America and Europe, and authoring literally thousands of manuscript pages on a wide variety of topics. His published works continue to have impact today, and are quoted extensively in popular contemporary ספרים such as the Artscroll Shas, the Mesivta Shas, the Frankel Rambam, Otzar Meforshei HaTalmud, Encyclopedia Talmudis, Piskei Teshuvos, Nit'ei Gavriel, Shu”t Yabia Omer, and many others.
In 2008, we were fortunate enough to acquire all of Rav Grodzinsky's manuscripts from Otzar Haposkim in Jerusalem, where they were stored since Rav Grodzinsky's death in 1947. Recently, three important ספרים have been published from these manuscripts -- 1) Bais HaYayin on the laws of yayin nesech, and 2) Moadei Zvi vol 1, which contains חידושים and פסקים on the holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkos, and Chanukah, and 3) Taharas Yisroel on Hilchos Niddah (the laws of Family Purity). These ספרים have been very warmly received in the Torah world and have been quoted in many shiurim.
In 2023, we formed Machon Tiferes Zvi Inc, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) entity, to address requests from people who appreciate Rav Grodzinsky’s ספרים to facilitate donating funds that will help expand and expedite the publication of his ספרים.
Rav Grodzinsky’s materials are sufficient to publish about fifty ספרים on all aspects of Torah including: Chumash, Mishnayos, Mechilta, Gemara, Sugyos, a commentary on Teshuvos HaRosh, Derashos, Chiddushim on Shulchan Aruch, Hilchos Niddah, and hundreds of Teshuvos to rabbanim across America and Europe. Having collected this material, we are in awe of how much Rav Grodzinsky was able to study and write while serving his community and dealing with daily tasks and challenges.
The Gemara (.בבא מציעא פ"ה) tells us that התורה מחזרת על אכסניא שלה. Rav Grodzinsky זצ"ל may not have been זוכה to this during his lifetime, but the promise of חז"ל is being fulfilled abundantly today for all to see.
